Microresidence / post-residence: Kanazawa

Artist in Kanazawa Machiya
As part of the “Artist in Kanazawa Machiya” program, Villa Kujoyama residents have the opportunity to take part to a “micro-residency” of one to two weeks in Kanazawa during their stay, or to reside in Kanazawa for one to two months after the end of their residency. The Mitani Foundation for the Protection of Cultural and Artistic Properties, which is engaged in preserving Japan’s traditional crafts and architectural heritage, provides Villa Kujoyama residents with fully renovated machiya townhouses as accommodation. This opportunity allows artists to further deepen their research alongside Kanazawa’s artisans. In addition, residents staying in Kanazawa as part of a post-residency program collaborate with Kanazawa College of Art, organizing lectures and workshops for students.
About the Mitani Foundation for the Protection of Cultural and Artistic Properties
Activities to restore and protect works of art involve sharing various perspectives and emotions—not only about the works themselves but also about the cultures behind them—and passing these on to future generations. Starting from Ishikawa Prefecture, the Mitani Foundation for the Protection of Cultural and Artistic Properties disseminates information that contributes to local communities through preservation and support activities for arts and culture. It aims to promote understanding of the arts and culture that will shape the future, and to foster and contribute to the development of exchanges among people.
