Villa Kujoyama is an institution of the cultural cooperation network of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Operated by Institut français du Japon, Villa Kujoyama works in coordination with Institut Français, and is supported by its main patron the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation.

About the Institut français

The Institut français is the pivotal operator for the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture in implementing France’s foreign cultural policy.

Its missions are to support and animate the French network of cooperation and cultural action abroad; to accompany French creators and cultural and creative industries in their development on an international scale; to strengthen the dialogue between cultures and societies; and finally to promote the French language and plurilingualism.

Its modes of action are :

  • expertise, advice, training and the provision of resources
  • mobility programs, residencies and the structuring of French and foreign professional networks
  • the organization of cultural highlights and debates
  • the co-financing of projects

The Institut français works worldwide. It pays particular attention to developing cultural entrepreneurship in Africa, strengthening cooperation between youth and civil societies in Europe, and cultural and creative industries in the Indo-Pacific.

About the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation

Both a family foundation and a recognized public utility since its creation in 1987, the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation aims to “give wings to talent” in order to contribute to France’s success and influence. To this end, it seeks out, selects, supports, accompanies, and promotes women and men who are imagining today the world of tomorrow in three areas that contribute concretely to the common good: life sciences, the arts, and solidarity. In a spirit of philanthropy, the foundation acts through awards, donations, personalized support, positive communication, and jointly developed initiatives. Since its creation, the foundation has rewarded more than 1,400 projects led by talented individuals, teams, associations, and organizations.
