Project

Listening to Fragrance, or the Art of the Invisible

Whereas western civilisation sees perfume as a reflection of the wearer’s personality, in Japan perfume is related to kōdō, the “way of fragrance” – a conscious and mindful appreciation of a perfume. During his residency, Daniel Pescio studied and, above all, practiced this as yet little-known olfactory art. Inspired by this alternative approach to fragrance, he set out to break new ground in perfumery, and use new materials and mediums to foster a fusion of these two arts.
