Christophe Galati
May. 2019

Presentation
Christophe Galati was 12 when he started making video games using RPG Maker software, going on to teach himself pixel art and develop his own universe. During his studies in programming and game design at Isart Digital in Paris, he completed internships with video-game companies and took part in game jams (time-limited collaborative game creation events). Between 2014 and 2017, Galati spent his free time developing Save Me Mr Tako, selected for the 2016 Tokyo Game Show. It was there that he was picked up by Nicalis, who released Save Me Mr Tako in October 2018.

As the first game designer to be selected for an Institut Français residency, Galati hopes to contribute to wider recognition for video games as an art form and pave the way for other developers. His narrative style is strongly inspired by the aesthetic of Japanese games, evidenced in Save Me Mr Tako, which borrows from the 8-bit Game Boy era.
His project at Villa Kujoyama explored a Super Nintendo/Game Boy Advance (16-bit) aesthetic. He drafted design documents, wrote the script, developed graphics and programmed a prototype. He also hosted a game jam in collaboration with Kyoto Indie Meetup.
