The event
Hylica is an association dedicated to the study and transmission of ancient techniques. It is a place where traditional craftsmanship and ancestral know-how are valued, as well as an open space for anyone interested in handmade crafts and practices free from machines. Through its activities, Hylica seeks to contribute to the revival of gestures from the past: bringing them to light, connecting them to material heritage, sharing them, and transmitting them to the public in order to preserve this fragile and precious intangible heritage.
Each year, the association organizes the event Menestralía, which brings together several master artisans around a specific theme and offers introductory workshops designed to introduce participants to traditional craft techniques. The third edition of Menestralía, organized in collaboration with the Galician Craft Foundation, will be dedicated to Japanese craftsmanship and will gather renowned artists and artisans.
Initiated by Régis Floury (2026, drafts), the invited guests include: Fujimo Awo, artist and specialist in traditional indigo dyeing; Nina Fradet (2024,crafts), artist specializing in the art of takezaiku (Japanese bamboo basketry); Violaine Blaise (2017, crafts), heritage conservator specializing in textiles and the Inkin technique; Yoko Kataoka, artisan and expert in the bingata technique; Yuna Kono, specialist in shibori techniques; as well as Joana Vilalta, who has been working with urushi lacquer for more than thirty years.
